Character NAME: Isaac Clarke
Canon & MEDIUM: Dead Space series (video game)
Canon PULL-POINT: After the events of Dead Space 2
Character AGE: 46
Character ABILITIES:

Proficiency with tech - Being an engineer, Isaac is most comfortable with assembling, dismantling, repairing and even hacking electrical systems. He is extremely adaptable in the field, and was able to remove specific modules for, ahem, off-label use in the game. The most notable example of this is the combining of a surgical laser with a flashlight which then became his primary means of offense. In either Dead Space game, nearly all of Isaac's 'weapons' are actually mining tools adapted for purposes not quite intended by the manufacturer. They're just as good at making things dead though.

Intelligence - This branches from above. Though a lesser college it may have been, Isaac still managed to graduate with high honours all the same, and even at the ripe age of 46, he still managed to get called out on for being a nerd. (WOW ELLIE. RUDE)

Character HISTORY: Wiki!
Character PERSONALITY: The first time Isaac was exposed to the Marker, it left a sort of 'code' implanted in his mind, and it was due to the Marker's influence on him that EarthGov kept him in stasis for approximately three years, bringing him out only when they needed him to build more Markers. After the events on the Ishimura, he was confined to an asylum where he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and paranoid schizophrenia. Though the PTSD may very well have been real, his paranoid schizophrenia was likely due to the Marker and its influence on his mind as the hallucinations he experienced, auditory or otherwise, were all actually attempts to have Isaac bring about a Convergence event. The Marker was actually channelling the image of his dead girlfriend and using his guilt of having caused her death against him. His other symptoms included mild OCD in which he consistently repeated various phrases all to do with the Marker and its construction, and etched Unitology glyphs wherever possible. Though the latter symptoms were never witnessed by the player in the game (though Isaac's medical notes on the matter do exist), the hallucinations of Nicole were certainly real, and it is safe to conclude that with the destruction of the Marker on the Sprawl, this disorder was effectively 'cured', and Isaac became free of the Marker's control. When Isaac isn't having those hallucinations however, his mental state does not actually seem questionable, as he is easily able to socialize and reasonably negotiate with the people he meets. To put it into some sort of perspective, Isaac could very well have turned out like Nolan Stross, a fellow Marker builder who was eventually driven insane and stabbed another survivor in the eye with a screwdriver, forcing Isaac to take his life. Instead, he seemed to remain the man he had always been; helpful and forthright, if not daring.

His PTSD however, is perhaps a liiiiittle bit more real though, especially when you consider the weight of the events he's been through. He doesn't have a severe case, despite what you'd think, but it is there, and it manifests in all the ways you'd expect; general discomfort, shallow breathing, insomnia, hypervigilance and nightmares. These symptoms generally only occur when he's exposed to things that remind him of what happened on the Ishimura. These are, but are not limited to; the Ishimura itself, mentions of Nicole, mentions of necromorphs, anything that can be traced back to the Marker, really. But the notable thing about Isaac's condition is that he chooses not to dwell on it, and instead prioritizes his own survival by any means necessary. Whether it was back on the Sprawl, or even on the Ishimura, one moment's hesitation meant the difference between life and death, and that is not a gamble Isaac willingly risks. This is why Isaac seems quite normal on the surface. He's smart enough to know that he can't let his mental state control his life, so he tries his best to keep on living. No matter what it takes. Just expect him to overreact a little when faced with a sudden loud noise; Isaac is jumpy, and reasonably so.

Looking past his mindframe, Isaac appears to be a regular guy. He's modest, he genuinely wants to help people where possible, he's not above using sarcasm in tandem with his wry sense of humour, he's brave, even if it's only because he feels he has to be, and above all else, he's got his smarts to back him up. Given his line of work, he's good at working under pressure, and as a result, he's become a quick thinker, capable of whipping up several back up plans on the fly should initial endeavours fall through. He is also dutiful to the point where he once forced a Sprawl survivor to escape without him in favour of stopping the Marker, and though Isaac put on a brave front during the confrontation, he was clearly and visibly depressed by the exchange directly afterward, needing several moments on top of a hallucination to regain his composure. He wasn't being selfless for the sake of theatrics and heroics, it was more a byproduct of his self-imposed penance and guilt. He told the woman that he couldn't save Nicole, but at least he'd be able to save her.

For a man who allegedly is not 'all there', Isaac holds himself together remarkably well, showing incredible strength even in the face of his hallucinations. He was able to understand they weren't real, and so never succumbed to 'Nicole's' taunting. If he did, Isaac would have turned out the same way Stross did; incomprehensible and completely batshit. Well, that or dead. Still, he likes to keep busy, if only to keep his mind from wandering too far. If he focuses on work, he can drown out everything else. Otherwise, drinking is always a viable option, even if he does do it sparingly.

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Isaac's plasma cutter will be his primary weapon and it will grow in raw firepower over time. It should be noted that the plasma cutter fires ionized "bolts" of plasma energy, and so still requires "ammunition" in order to be used. As the name implies, its purpose is to cut and sever rather than pierce, and the bolts fired can be shot vertically or horizontally as needed simply by activating the tool's alternate fire. This of course, means that the plasma cutter has a miniscule area of effect, perhaps only 2-3 inches wide. As time passes however, this range can be increased when needed to a maximum of two meters, mirroring the primary characteristics of the line gun.

Chosen SKILLSET: Isaac will participate in compulsory missions, but he would prefer to stay back and work on machinery and the like. When conflict arises, his aim is simply to survive.
Character INVENTORY:
- A plasma cutter.
- Several rounds of plasma energy.
- Credits (the in game currency) that he looted from corpses... amongst other things. Will be disregarded while in Exsilium, obviously.
- The advanced suit, which includes his stasis and kinesis modules, as well as all the standard RIG functions.
